Roads in Bhutan
Western Roads– most of the western roads covering Thimphu, Paro, Punakha, Phobjikha, Haa, Chukha and Phuentsholing are quite wide, black topped and smooth however you will find lots of curves and sharp bends. These parts of the roads are nice.
Central Roads– roads covering Trongsa, Bumthang, Zhemgang, Gelephu are under road widening project which might take another two years to complete therefore driving in these areas specially with small kids and senior citizens are not advisable. Bumpy, narrow and frequent stops or blockage are some of the things you need to consider while driving through above places. Do not travel in July-August.
Eastern Roads– roads leading to Mongar, Lhuntse, Tashi Yangtse, Trashigang, Samdrup Jongkhar is also under huge road widening project therefore frequent disturbances are always expected. Not advisable to travel with small kids and senior citizens. Do not travel in June-Mid September
